Handfasting~ cord correlationsHANDFASTINGS  ~  "Tying The Knott"

The word Handfasting itself means to ‘pledge by giving hand’, a contract.

European handfastings were traditionally recognised as lawful marriages by both church and state.  Handfastings were performed in ritual agreement and the couple’s hands are fastened together with cord as the vows are being said.  A knot may be made in the chord after each vow. Several cords in different colours for different meanings may be used and there are many variations you may choose to design. Click on the hand photo to see some common cord colour correlations.

Handfastings are usually performed in a circle or a horseshoe shape so that everyone can see. Today Handfasting wedding rituals are performed by marriage celebrants to ensure that they are legally binding and often include a ring ceremony to follow modern tradition.

Love and commitment comes in many forms AND THE LAWS ARE CHANGING so hopefully this section needs updating soon. Until then here in Queensland same sex couples may be legally joined in a Civil Union at the Registry office. Keeping the legals in mind you and your partner may like to also have a standard (or as unusual as you like) ceremony with your family and friends in the regular loving and traditional fashion. Your commitment ceremony may look like a traditional wedding or any ceremony you choose. You will receive all of the personal attention required for a Civil Ceremony.

A themed wedding is open to anything your imagination can come up with. 50's rock n Roll, to Medieval re- enactment, to Star Wars.  You may like to ask the whole guest list or plan your menu to match in with your theme.  You can design your wedding using the language of the theme. May the force be with you.
